People don't like trackback. Sean complains about people not commenting on his blog in this entry. If he added the ability to comment on his blog again more people would comment. That's all I have to say.
Except for Trackback is cool, but commenting is easier.

what's trackback?
Trackback sucks. If I have something to say about what you write, I'll comment. If I don't I'm not going to write a whole blog entry just so I can say some inane bullshit that probably shouldn't be committed to the internet anyway. Applause for Myles for supporting Comments! Down with Myles for saying TrackBack is cool.
I really *do* like comments, I just don't like the spam that I've received as a result of leaving them on. Asshats would literally post penis-enlargement ads and whatnot direct onto my blog. So, I turned 'em off.
Sean is right. I have to regularly delete ads for penis enlargement and websites, but I still prefer comments. I think it would be cool to figure out a way around that. Maybe some kind of project for a CSC/CPE major to ponder on.
Maybe if you'd just suck it in and buy said penis enlargement tools, they'd stop advertising. Or advertise more. I'm not sure.
Couldn't you just write a script to remove said ads anyway? Just grep penis or something.
Man, that sounds soooooo wrong.
Anyhow, trackback is stupid, if I have to host my own blog post somewhere just to tell someone their opinion is wrong or to clarify something a post inquires about, it's not worth the trouble. I've been tempted to test the system by posting a reply somewhere, then deleting it once the trackback was up. But alas, it's not worth it.
I never get spam comments... maybe it's a testament to my undying unpopularity. But I agree; you could easily chrontab a script that would "grep penis" as Shane says. Or you could just not worry about it... I mean; who cares? I don't think anyone that is internet savvy is going to be surprised or offended about a little penis enlargement.
Sean, I know this is an old topic, but I believe that you as the site admin should monitor your site so that if a bad comment is added you delete it. Sean I say that I would comment on some things and so would shane but not all of us have a moveable type blog that uses trackback.
I am supprised that moveable type doesn't have a functionability that would force you to register to comment. Now Blogger does but you would have to switch your thing to blogger. But I do understand the argument that you present, but I cannot trackback, so It doesn't help. I like commenting on some things, and so does everyone else you know Sean.
you guys are way too into this...
